What is The Scottish New Music Awards?
The Scottish New Music Awards have been set up to promote the emerging talent in Scotland on a national and international level.
The event does not focus on one scene, one city, one genre. It encompasses all aspects of the music industry. The show offers awards to recognise the effort and dedication that artists, bands, individuals, companies and service providers put into the Scottish music scene 365 days a year.

The Scottish New Music Industry Awards have been set up to promote, encourage and reward the people and businesses that make the music industry in Scotland happen.
As artists and bands go on to success, the Scottish New Music Industry Awards doesn’t want to forget the rehearsal studios where the bands rehearsed and the recording studios where they recorded their first demos.
The Scottish New Music Industry Awards also encompasses the media and radio stations that have gone out of their way to promote Scottish music.

The Scottish New Music Awards would like to aid in the creation of a national music scene and industry and, in future, take that national identity to an international level.
Who is behind the Awards?
The Scottish New Music Awards are owned exclusively by Daze Management Ltd. Daze Management was formed as a sole proprietorship in 1990, established as a record company and owned by Bruce Hotchkies in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Over the years Daze Management Ltd has released several recordings to the Canadian Music Industry. In 2007 Bruce Hotchkies relocated to the UK, and formed Daze Management Ltd as a limited liability company to move into the areas of Artist Representation and Asset Management. Bruce has a background in the music industry dating back to 1985 as a musician. Attending the Trebas Institute for the Recording Arts in Toronto in 1990 and going on to work for Balmur Ltd, a Management Company owned by Anne Murray and responsible for managing the talents of artists such as Anne Murray, Rita MacNeil and George Fox.

How do/does I/my band get nominated for a Music Award?
Submissions must be complete and meet eligibility requirements.
Submissions are screened by a screening committee of music industry experts who determine a final list of a maximum of five nominees per category.
The screening committee reserves the right to include more than 5 nominations per category at their sole discretion.
The screening committee also reserves the right to re-categorise any submission and to submit nominations.
All nomination submissions must be received by mail only at The Scottish New Music Awards in Falkirk no later than the last day of June each year.
Late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
What are the requirements in order to be nominated for a Music Award?
The nominee must have released a Recording within each years timescale.
The Nominee must have been born in SCOTLAND
OR
The Nominee must have lived in SCOTLAND for a period of at least two consecutive years in his/her lifetime.
OR
The Nominee must have lived in SCOTLAND for a period of at least six consecutive months within the past five years.
For bands/groups, at least 50% of members must comply with the above Residency Requirements. Proof of the above requirements may be required.

But that answers my question about submissions, but how do I get nominated?
Well, after all of the submissions have been received, there is a listening session which takes place in August where all tracks are listened to and voted on.
The listening party is made up of industry professionals from across all genres.
The top five artists in each category become the nominated.
Why was _____________________ not nominated for?
The quick answer is either YOU didn’t submit them for a nomination, or that they didn’t receive enough submissions to be nominated.
Why did (insert well known performer) receive an award, surely they can’t be considered “new” music?
The answer to this question is twofold, and also understand that this FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions;
Yes, we have been asked this question.
So long as the artist meets the eligibility requirements, then they are eligible to be nominated. An established artist is entitled to release “new” music.
We are the Scottish NEW MUSIC Awards, not the Scottish NEW ARTIST Awards. So long as the artist has released new material and is not (or no longer) signed to a major label then they have every right to be nominated.
Is/Are any Artist/Bands ineligible?
Yes. As The Scottish New Music Awards are all about emerging talent, established artists signed to a major label are ineligible to receive a Scottish new Music Award.
How do/does I/ my business get nominated for a Music Industry Award?
Press releases will be sent out to over 2000 websites, press, media, blogs across Scotland, asking them to submit their nominations for each award.
This group will also be asked to send the release to anyone they have contact with in the music industry in Scotland.
Any submissions received are registered as to who has submitted them, although this information is kept confidential.
Any person or business who receives more than one submission will be placed as a nominee.
What are the requirements in order to be nominated for a Music Industry Award?
The Nominee must have been born in SCOTLAND
OR
The Nominee must have lived in SCOTLAND for a period of at least two consecutive years in his/her lifetime.
OR
The Nominee must have been conducting business in SCOTLAND since March 1, 2010. This includes providing rentals or services or sales in these regions.

What happens if there is a draw?
If there is a draw selected for the SNMA Awards, all winning parties will be selected as the winners and receive the award.
